Q. Where are you happiest?
A. I’m truly happiest with my family. My happy place is at home watching movies with my husband and two kids.

Q. What do you love most about the industry?
A. Since I’m a change seeker, I love that the hair industry is always changing. I also enjoy that it gives me the opportunity to transform hair into beautiful creations.

Q. Who do you admire most in the industry?
A. I admire so many artists in the hair industry. And these creative people always inspire me.

Q. What inspires you?
A. I’m inspired by fashion, and I love to research trends. In fact, each season I gather what’s new and relevant with color, textiles and print. I’m also passionate about story boarding and designing color collections. In addition, I find it both amazing and inspiring when I get to join forces with the team that creates the beautiful brand photos for Goldwell! I most recently collaborated on the color work for the Goldwell @Pure Pigments brand photos.

Q. How do you push yourself every day?
A. I’ve always had a strong work ethic. I consistently push myself to try new things. I have a mantra during the day to try to achieve as much as possible. And I believe a good night’s sleep helps you push yourself the next day.

Q. What do you love doing outside of work?
A. I really enjoy music. And I find that seeing and hearing live music is so freeing. I especially like to go with my husband, an upright bass player who’s composed for many jazz albums. Plus, I love to go antiquing with my family. They’re always up for a good flea market!

Q. What do you love most about your clients?
A. Of course, I love doing their hair. But more than that, I love doing life with them. And over the years, a number of my wonderful clients have become my friends. I feel honored and blessed that they share their stories with me and that I also get to play a part in the special events of their lives.

Q. What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced?
A. One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is maintaining a life balance. About six years ago, I realized that I needed to set aside some time off and take vacations. I’ve learned that you have to find balance in your life with work, family and making time for yourself. And as a bonus, I’ve discovered that my best creative moments happen either on or just after a vacation!

Q. What is your favorite place to visit?
A. France is my favorite place to visit. Maybe because my husband is French, and we met in Paris. We go on vacation to visit my husband’s family each summer. They run a Bed and Breakfast in the country about 45 minutes west of Paris. We also go to Saint-Lunaire to spend time at the beach. It’s on the Celtic Sea and is part of the English Channel. I absolutely love it there!

Q. What is your favorite cutting technique?
A. Detailing and customizing after the hair is blown dry is my favorite technique. And dry-slide cutting and releasing weight by using deep-point cutting are all part of what makes a haircut truly fit the client’s facial shape and texture.

Q. What is your favorite color technique?
A. Color technique evolves seasonally for me, but right now my favorites are color morphing, boosting and washing. These techniques use Goldwell @Pure Pigments which allow you to incorporate either color formulas with droplets or milliliters at full strength to create amazing shades that move and change with the light. All of them can provide an incredible holographic effect.

Q. What is your favorite trend?
A. I’m so excited about color trends right now. Color has gotten bolder and brighter. And I love to paint color patterns in hair. The fall/winter trends are Icey Blondes with Balayage colors running through the mid lengths and ends, Russet Copper with yellow and violet accents, Red in bright poppy-colored shades with blue and green accents and Browns that are retro and cool with martini olive and navy accents.

Q. Do you use social media to advance your career? If so how?
A. Social media is an amazing way to share what you do! I love to post and share photos. It also helps connect me to many other artists, as well as promote trends, cutting techniques and more. In addition, I use videos more because I find them to be more impactful than photos.

Q. Why are beauty shows important?
A. Beauty shows are a great way to get inspired, discover new techniques, increase your expertise and purchase new tools. All of this keeps you motivated behind the chair.

Q. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?
A. Early in my career an incredible colorist said to me, “With passion, education and a great work ethic, success will always come.... However, … stay humble for success to stay with you.”

Q. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
A. To be honest, I’m not sure. I love where I am right now. I’m truly living in the moment. But if I dare to dream—maybe having my own beauty blog ... or an antique shop!

Q. What are your must-have products?
A. For me, great hair starts with the following Goldwell products: Silk Lift High Performance Lightener, @Pure Pigments and the seven Kerasilk Style series. With them, I believe I can achieve any style and any look.
