Kenra Professional and The Rapunzel Project
Partner to Bring Awareness to Cold Cap Therapy
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and Kenra Professional is partnering with The Rapunzel Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping cancer patients keep their hair during chemotherapy through the use of Cold Cap Therapy.
Kenra Professional is committed to raising awareness of the existence and efficacy of the cold cap method for preserving hair during chemotherapy and to raising funds to purchase biomedical freezers for oncology facilities.
What is Cold Cap Therapy?
Special caps are cooled to an extremely cold temperature and worn for a period of time before, during, and after chemo. The cooling of the hair follicles limits the amount of chemo toxins that reach them, allowing most patients to save most of their hair.
Cold Caps empower patients, making chemo a process to be tolerated, without the residual reminder of illness caused by hair loss. Keeping one’s hair can help liberate a patient from the “cancer patient” label and enhance self-image, dignity and morale which are vital elements of overall wellness.
Manual Cold Caps can be used at any chemotherapy location using the dry ice method. Some supportive chemo centers have biomedical freezers to store the patient’s cold caps which makes the process easier.
Scalp Cooling Machine systems require neither dry ice nor freezers and are more expected to become the primary cold cap method of the future.
You, as a stylist, have the power to save your client’s hair. We welcome your help spreading the word about cold cap therapy.
